Domaine de la Pénissière : a terroir and traditions
From 5 ha in 1945, today Jacques Bousseau farms 30 ha of Muscadet including 80% of Sèvre et Maine with the "sur Lie" mention, which makes it the top of the range of the Pays Nantais appellation. Unique, the terroir of La Pénissière is a granit, called Granit de Château-Thébaud. Very advanced in its alteration, it provides the vines with excellent drainage. The sunny orientation of the hills looking out on the river Maine allows a good maturity of the grapes and the making of very high quality wines. The variety is Melon de Bourgogne, with a traditional density of 7000 plants / ha. The guyot Nantais pruning of the vines determines the yield, from 45 to 55 hl/ha. The wines from Domaine de la Pénissière are vinified with grapes produced according to the "Terra Vitis" integrated viticulture procedures, elaborated to ensure the respect of environment and the complete traceability of our wine-growing practices, controlled by an independent body.
